APPRECIATION AND THANK
YOU DINNER FOR PDG DAVID TUCKERMAN (From
Chairman Lion Jim Field)
|
We
recently held a testimonial dinner to express our warm
thanks to PDG David Tuckerman OAM for 36 years of service
and dedication to our Foundations in the capacity of
Honorary Solicitor.
We all
appreciate very much what you have done for us and we thank
you sincerely on behalf of all those People who have been
helped in various ways by the Foundations.
The
dinner, held at Bankstown Sports Club on Saturday 22nd
August, was attended by more than seventy Past and current
Directors of the Foundation. PDG Keith Kent kept things
moving and ensured that all present experienced a most
enjoyable evening.
PDG
David and PDGs Keith Kent and Bob Lowe were involved in the
initial setting up of the foundations, PDG Keith as the
Foundation Secretary and PDG Bob as the Foundation
Treasurer.
It was
very entertaining to hear the stories of the early times
told by David, Keith and Bob. They certainly had plenty of
fun whilst working hard. The first Million Dollars was
raised in a very short time.
Thank
you again David, All the best to you and Beverley, enjoy
your retirement.
We the
current Directors and Honorary Officers will do our best to
maintain the very high standard set by all of the Past
Directors and Honorary Officers. |

GOVERNMENT HOUSE RECEPTION FOR PROFESSOR FRANK BILLSON
|
On Saturday, 16th October
2009 a Reception was held at Government House, in the
presence of Her Excellency, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO
Governor of New South Wales.
The occasion was to thank all
donors to the Save Sight Institute and was attended by three
of our Foundation Directors, Jean-Claude Legrand, Max Holmes and Kerry
Williams accompanied by their spouses.
As a tribute to the
dedication and long service of Professor Frank Billson, Mrs
Marno Parsons, a friend and donor to the institute
commissioned Mr Mathew Lynn to paint a portrait of Professor
Billson. During the evening Mrs Marno unveiled the portrait
and presented Professor Billson with a replica drawing.
The portrait was donated to
the institute and is to be hung in the Save Sight Clinic.

LIONS CLUB OF PORT MACQUARIE GIVES GREAT SUPPORT TO OUR
ANNUAL RAFFLE
We recently
received this note from Lions John Fulton, Secretary of
the Lions Club of Port Macquarie. What a wonderful
example of first class support for the Lions NSW-ACT
Save Sight & Public Health Care Foundations.
"Port
Macquarie Lions Club have been participating in car raffle
ticket sales for many years, going back to the days when
it was for the Miss Personality Quest. Ticket sales
were organised then by the late Lion Ken Dick, a Charter
member of the Club. Ken regularly managed to sell
thousands of tickets, with the best sales being over
10,000.
Last year,
the Club decided to again get behind the Lions Save Sight
& Public Health Care Foundations in a big way and every member of the Club was
on the roster at some time. We managed to sell over
7,500 tickets.
This year,
we have improved our roster by concentrating mainly on
the site outside the Commonwealth Bank where we can fit
a car on the footpath for display, and regularly sell
500-600 tickets in a day (3 shifts 8.00am to 5:00pm).
As at early January
2010, we have sold close to 6,000 tickets
and still have 10 more selling days to go, so 10,000 tickets should be achievable.
The Club's
efforts are well supported by local Hyundai dealer,
Andrew Miedecke Motors. They have generously supplied a
display car (I30) for the whole day for each day we have
been outside the bank."
Pictured are
Lions Rich Grimmond and Deana Hazebroek in their prime
location and complete with the Hyundi I30 display car so
generously supplied by Andrew Meidecke Motors.
CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to Port Macquarie Lions
Club on this great effort in support of the Foundations.
